Part 1 of the amendment sought to strike language in the proposed article which specifies the people's right to "acknowledge God" and insert language which specifies the people's right to "freedom of religion". \ Part 2 of the amendment sought to strike language in the proposed article that specifies that the Government shall not "discriminate against religion, or deny equal access to a benefit on account of religion" and insert language that specifies "or otherwise compel or discriminate against religion".
